Kimmy’s Garden (Not for sale)

My dear friend Kim (again, I'm SO clever with the titles, eh?!) commissioned me to make this piece for her newly remodeled home. She has great taste and gave me a bit of the fabric that her beautiful custom drapes were made out of as inspiration for this painting. I recall hearing an art gallery owner once sadly say that, when it came down to it, many of her clients ended up choosing art based on what would match their wallpaper. That statement has always stayed with me as I can imagine the frustration a gallery owner would feel when, after expounding the artistic virtues of a piece, they might then hear a buyer reply with something like “Yes but, it really doesn’t go with the color of our hallway!” Truly, that must be quite hard to take. I must admit though, I experienced no angst while creating a piece inspired by drapery fabric. Hmmm.
