This piece was commissioned by a friend who is a professor of music at a university in Southern California. His office does not have a window, so it was important to me that this piece, which hangs on the wall facing his desk, have a natural, out-of-doors feel to it. I wanted this piece to serve as a type of window, providing some green space (so to speak) into which he could gaze but also containing a visual stimulant in the rusty-red colored portion. This friend is a fan of color field painting and is particularly fond of Rothko’s work, so I took that into consideration as well when creating this piece.
