In music, a ‘call and response’ is a sequence of two distinct phrases with the response being a reaction to or commentary on the initial call. This is how I understand my art-making;

It is my response to the call of beauty I experience in nature.

I paint how I feel when I see an expanse of twilight sky, the velvet intensity of color in springtime flowers, the turquoise and sapphire blues of Lake Tahoe, Lake Michigan, the Pacific ocean, the jungle of greens outside my own front door…

These experiences of nature are the call and my work is the gratitude-filled response. Each piece I make is a ‘thank you’ I create in private and then publicly share.

Art serves many purposes; my particular art exists to emphasize the beauty of the natural world and through doing so, to remind viewers of the power and persistence of beauty, as well as our capacity for peace.

Born and raised in the beautiful greens and blues of the Pacific Northwest, I’ve been lucky to live on the west coast, the east coast, and in the middle for just a bit. The best parts of being an art major at a college in western NY were the other worldly fall colors and going to museums and galleries in NYC. After working for several years as a graphic designer in Nashville and Los Angeles, I became a mom, a painter, and a resident and fan of northern California. The incredible brilliance of the Sierra foothills is daily food for my eyes and heart.
